Malta

Malta, with its rich history, beautiful landscapes, and vibrant culture, is a popular destination for tourists. If you’re planning to visit Malta and require a visa, here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the process.

Who Needs a Tourist Visa for Malta

Malta is a member of the Schengen Area, which means that travelers from certain countries can enter Malta without a visa for short stays (up to 90 days within a 180-day period) for tourism purposes. However, citizens from non-Schengen countries may need to apply for a Schengen visa to enter Malta.

Steps to Apply for a Maltese Tourist Visa

Determine Visa Type

For tourism, you will need a Short-Stay Schengen Visa (Type C), which allows you to stay in Malta and other Schengen countries for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

Gather Required Documents

Ensure you have all the necessary documents before starting your application. Typically, you will need:

  • Completed Visa Application Form: Filled and signed. You can download it from the official website of the Maltese consulate or embassy.
  • Passport: Valid for at least three months beyond your intended stay in Malta, with at least two blank pages.
  • Passport Photos: Two recent passport-sized photos that meet Schengen visa photo requirements.
  • Travel Itinerary: Including flight bookings (round trip) and accommodation reservations.
  • Proof of Accommodation: Hotel bookings, rental agreement, or invitation letter from a host in Malta.
  • Travel Insurance: Proof of travel medical insurance with minimum coverage of €30,000, valid throughout the Schengen Area.
  • Proof of Financial Means: Bank statements, salary slips, or proof of income to show you can support yourself during your stay.
  • Cover Letter: Explaining the purpose of your visit, itinerary, and how you plan to cover your expenses.
  • Proof of Employment/Student Status: Employment letter or proof of enrollment if you are a student.

Schedule an Appointment

Book an appointment with the nearest Maltese consulate or embassy. You may also need to schedule an appointment at a visa application center, such as VFS Global, depending on your location.

Submit Your Application

Attend your appointment with all required documents. You will need to submit your biometric data (fingerprints and photo) if you have not provided them for a Schengen visa in the last 59 months.

Pay the Visa Fee

The Schengen visa fee for adults is generally €80, while children between the ages of 6 and 12 are charged €40. Check with the consulate or visa center for the exact fee and payment method.

Wait for Processing

Visa processing time can take up to 15 calendar days from the date of your application. In some cases, it may take longer, especially during peak travel seasons.

Collect Your Visa

Once your visa is processed, you will be notified to collect your passport. If your visa is approved, it will be affixed to your passport. If denied, you will be informed of the reasons for the refusal.
